   Girl Scout swaps are small pieces of decorated insignia that girl scouts can trade with one another and with other troops to pin onto hats, sashes or bags. Swaps, which stands for Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere, can be made with themes in mind like a pirate-themed swap to be made and given at a pirate-themed girl scout event.

2. Small felt eye patches are one idea for a pirate-themed swap. Cut patches to be about two inches wide two inches tall, as swaps are meant to be small to adorn clothing. Decorate patches with jewels, glitter or more felt. You can have girls in your troop decorate a lot of patches before an event or have them all do it together with everyone at the event as a crafts activity.

3. Parrot swaps are another thing you can make. Draw a picture of a parrot on poster board, remembering to keep it relatively small, color and cut out. You can then glue your parrot onto a pin backing with super glue. You can usually find flat metal pin backings in bulk at most craft stores. Spray parrots with some clear acrylic sealant to preserve their colors and give them a shiny appearance.

For a pirate theme try making pirate treasure with pretty gold and jeweled bracelets. Use gold colored beads and costume jewelry beads with some clear latex jewelry string. When you're done you'll have a cute piece of fine jewels fit for any pirate's box of treasure.

6. Make small pirate swords to decorate with silver glitter and paints. Use heavy gray paper to cut out the shape of the sword and a piece of a craft stick to use as the handle. Cut off a piece of craft stick about one inch long and glue your sword cutout to it. After the swords are decorated, glue them to flat pin backings and you and your girl scouts can trade with other scouts.
